Hope for tomorrow, by finding the mental wellness tools to use today. Can we talk?
There are a few reasons we do what we do, sharing our story and offering resources. Suicide can affect all ages, and the numbers don't lie:
Our mission is to promote positive mental health awareness, to offer a few alternatives to self-harm, to aid in the prevention of suicide, to share a message of hope and comfort to those persons who are struggling and/or in a crisis “Self-harm” type of situation. While we offer some skills/tools, we highly recommend that persons in a crisis or self-harm situation seek out professional mental health experts, and call or text the #988 hotline or the #741741 help line. We always recommend that the Suicide Hotline #988 be used any time that there is a self-harm possibility, or you are in ANY high stress situation that you cannot handle alone. We cannot do this life alone, since we are all in this life together. Let’s make suicide unfashionable! Make the call because you matter.
The Jamie Boone Project has been created to honor our son, Jamie Boone. We are including some tools and information which may help to quell an already tense situation and that can offer hope for a new tomorrow, so that there IS a tomorrow! We highly recommend and promote you seeking out medical professionals that offer coping tools and skills to deal with depression and anxiety, as well as following their guidance.
Our J.A.M.I.E. Bags (Just A Mental Inventory Everyday) are comprised of:
*These items are similar in style to the items we put in each bag. Each bag is constructed in the same manner and items are dependent upon availability.
Because You Matter,
The Boone Family
Johnny and Anita Boone lost their youngest child, Jamie, to suicide May 30, 2023. The Boone Family witnessed no overt previous warning signs that their son was even contemplating suicide.
Jamie was born with two toes on each foot connected to each other creating a webbed appearance. A few medical issues hampered his childhood. Jamie lost part of his ring finger and pinky finger at age 11 in a home accident where a cast-iron home radiator fell over on his fingers and severed them. He was air-lifted to a hospital and spent a while in the hospital while they tried in vain to reattach his fingers. There were several other issues medically that caused him to hate the medical field. At age 19, Jamie was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, which caused daily shots, finger pricking, glucose monitoring devices, insulin needles, test strips, and where soda and oranges became his new normal.
Jamie's depression stemmed from several medical issues throughout his life as well as bullying, but one thing was constant: he was unconditionally loved and he loved so many people. Jamie was such a caring individual. He had a knack of seeing someone and realize they were having a bad day, and he would find their favorite snack or soda or song, or movie and sit with them and enjoy the time sitting and talking them through a tense situation. We wish he would have allowed others to help him in the same manner, but he did not.
After Jamie's tragic ending, Johnny and Anita wanted his legacy to live on. Johnny heard about a church group that had put together a “Stress Bag” for a woman after her daughter died. Johnny thought it would have been handy if “our children would’ve had a stress bag versus a parent receiving a stress bag after the horrible loss of a child.”
Johnny researched “stress bags for teens” and found nothing worth using, therefore, he and Anita created J.A.M.I.E. Bags and The Jamie Boone Project. J.A.M.I.E. Bags stands for "Just A Mental Inventory Everyday!" It also is their son’s first name, so it was a natural fit. Be Advised: There are always warning signs. Don't be afraid to talk to your loved ones about their mental health.
